My client's child had moved between two of the bedrooms in their home many times over the years, leaving an array of DIY design in their wake! As they had now grown to a pre-teen, this room needed to be fun and "cool" but at the same time easily convert into a comfortable and welcoming spare bedroom for guests.
As the space themed wall mural was already in situ this helped me to focus my design, allowing me to use the colours in the mural as guidance.
My client also had some old storage furniture they wanted to re-use. I planned to upcycle these units using the mural to colour match the paint, adding new gold handles and brackets to match another set of shelves the client already owned, however unfortunately not every piece of old furniture can be salvaged and new, similar storage was purchased and installed.
I was given free rein on design, furniture placement and procurement. The old carpet was replaced by good quality pale oak laminate and the whole room, except for the wall mural, was painted, the paint colour was chosen in consultation with my client's eleven year old daughter which she loved after all it is "her room". New blinds, lighting and additional furniture were also added to the den.
MUM J - "I struggled to see how this room could work, but seeing the 3D realistic designs showed me what it could be. I love the finished room & guests and kids alike have also given it the "thumbs up"."
